Not all laundry sheets are created equal. While they all have an eco friendly aspect to them because they're cutting down on plastic packaging, there are still plenty of laundry detergent sheets on the market that use harsh chemicals and artificial fragrance which can be an irritant for sensitive skin and sensitive noses.
When we chose to stock the Cleaner Days laundry sheet range, we chose it because they are the first plant based brand in Australia to use natural essential oils for the scent and not something artificial.
What are the Eco Benefits of Laundry Sheets?
One of the biggest hurdles for us in our store is selling bulk cleaning products. When it comes to laundry liquid or laundry powder, we are shipping around heavy bottles, they are low cost items in plastic bottles and buckets. Even though our natural laundry products are concentrated, it's still a waste to be shipping large amounts of plastic and water. By introducing laundry sheets to our store, we have significantly reduced the weight per wash and the shipping costs. The environment is also happier because our laundry detergent sheets are in plastic free packaging.
How do you use laundry detergent sheets?
Laundry sheets have surfactants (the ingredients used to clean your clothes) embedded in them just like a laundry liquid or laundry powder does. When the sheets are dissolved in water, these surfactants are released and they wash your clothes just like any other laundry product you've used in your home. They work with a wide range of water temperatures too. Hot water, warm water and cold water washes are all possible. They offer a more convenient measurement than a liquid or a powder, so it's impossible to use too much and have unnecessary waste.
Measuring is easier with sheets. For small loads, 1 sheet is enough, for normal sized loads, 2 sheets work best and for big mess, spills, stains and stubborn dirt and grime, you'll get a fresh clean from your laundry with 3 sheets.
Laundry sheets can be used in either a top load or a front load machine as they are low sudsing. Gone are the days where top load or front load specific detergents are made, everything is suitable for both.
If you have a front load machine, if there's space, you can either break or fold up the detergent sheets and put them in the dispenser drawer, or you can place them on top of your clothes in the machine before you close the door. For top load machines, it's best to place the sheets on top of your clothes.
Can you use laundry detergent sheets for hand washing?
Absolutely. They dissolve in water whether it's in your washing machine or a tub. You can use a full laundry sheet or half a sheet, depending on how much hand washing you're doing and how dirty the clothes are.
Are laundry detergent sheets 100% dissolvable?
The detergent sheets from Cleaner Days are 100% dissolvable and they have OECD 301B certification to prove they are made from biodegradable materials. Anything that's not 100% dissolvable has the potential to release microplastics into our waterways.
Powered with plant based natural enzymes
The formula used to make the Cleaner Days laundry detergent sheets are palm oil free, vegan and use plant based natural enzymes to clean your clothes and give you fresh linen from every load. They are available in a scented version but also as a fragrance free option. You can choose to stay fragrance free or pick the unscented and add your own essential oils.
Are your laundry sheets Australian made?
Cleaner Days are an Australian brand but the products are manufactured in China. The technology and infrastructure doesn't currently exist in Australia to make their product. The manufacturer is BSCI certified, which is a social compliance certification that assesses workplace standards.
