Traditionally hair spray is bad for the environment and your health for many reasons. From giant aerosol cans that are combustible that can’t be recycled to the microfine particles that you inevitably inhale while you’re using it, there are many reasons to go without aerosol hair spray, but there’s no need to ditch it completely.
We have multiple options in natural hair spray in non-aerosol packaging. If you have fine and limp hair, you can choose how much mist you use to control the type of hold you want. Lighter misting can give you added volume with a little movement, while misting all over can give you control over flyaway and firm hold for special occasions when you just don’t want a hair out of place. There’s even a natural hair spray for the kids that smells like fruit!
Using natural hair spray to hold a finished style
If your hair is styled and you want to hold curls or your up-do for a special occasion, natural hair spray can be used to hold finished styles in the same way an aerosol spray will. Giovanni's LA Hold is a strong hold spray to hold a style in place all day long.
What's the best natural hair spray for volume?
The Giovanni 2chic Ultra Volume range has a Big Body Hair Spray. It truly shines when it's used for creating added volume, and also provides excellent hold. It's a more lightweight spray than the others and even works well in humidity. Ultra Volume has a satin soft touch and a shiny finish.
What's the best way to apply non aerosol hair spray?
You will get the best results by NOT spraying directly on to the hair. If you spray too close or too much, directly on to the hair, you may end up with a sticky do. Have you seen those videos where people spray perfume and then walk in to the mist? We're kind of going to do that. Spray the hair spray above your hair and let the mist fall. If you need hair spray on the back of your head, tilt your head forward.
Is natural hair spray buildable?
Absolutely. When styling your hair with natural hair spray, if you want a medium hold, spray lightly. If you need a stronger hold, repeat the process for more coverage. You'll get a much better finish with repeated light sprays than being heavy handed on the first go.
Can you use natural hair spray on damp or wet hair?
It's not a good idea. When you use hair spray on dry hair, you can create volume and hold styles. On damp hair, you get completely different results. The spray will harden on wet hair and may even cause it to tangle. The spray simply will not stick to damp or wet hair, so it won't do its job.
