1. Silicone is a really great alternative to plastic
Stasher bags are made from 100% platinum silicone. It is an all natural product and is safer, more flexible, and more sustainable than plastic. Plastic is a petroleum-based product full of dangerous chemicals that are toxic to us and to the planet, and it can take hundreds of years to break down in landfill.
2. Stasher Bags have an airtight seal
Once your food is in your stasher bag, gently remove air and 'burp' the bag then fold over and use the pinch-lock seal to make an airtight closure. This airtight seal on your bag locks in nutrients, flavors, and juices so your food always tastes fresh and delicious. It will also stop things from drying out and going stale.
3. You can cook with them
Stasher bags are safe for use in the microwave, sous vide machine, standard oven, or a pot of boiling water — up to 200c. Also perfect for reheating items in the oven - simply leave the seal open, place on baking sheet or oven-safe pan, and place directly in oven.
4. You can use them in a sous vide machine
Sous vide is a popular slow cooking technique that seals in flavor and nutrients. And Stasher was born to sous vide.
Place your ingredients in Stasher, then seal the bag, leaving a 2-inch opening anywhere on the seal. Then slowly submerge your bag in water, the pressure of the water on the outside of the bag will push out any excess air and create a vacuum tight seal around your food. Once you have the bag almost fully submerged, pinch the seal completely closed to avoid any air coming in.
If you don't know much about sous vide then you can google to get lots of info to help you get started.
5. They are really easy to clean
Your Stasher is dishwasher safe and we suggest you use the upper rack for best results. It here is food stuck in the corners of the bags then filling half way with water and some dishwashing liquid from our natural cleaning products department and giving the bag a shake can help, as can using a little brush.
Note: Do not turn the bag inside out to clean, as this can compromise the bag's sealed edges.
6. Your Stasher may stain or absorb a tiny amount of smell - but that is really simple to fix
Because Stasher bags don't contain any toxic sealants that does mean the silicone can stain. The best way to avoid this is to choose a bag color that corresponds with your food, and you can also reduce any potential staining by cleaning as soon as possible after use. Stasher silicone is also nonporous which helps it to inhibit bacterial growth and odors. However certain smelly foods may leave a slight odor in the bag. To combat either staining or odor a paste of baking soda and water applied to the Stasher bag for 30 minutes should do the trick. Once you have let it soak rinse then wash as normal.
Leaving a fresh slice of lemon in the bag overnight can help too.
7. They are made by awesome people
Stasher is a a certified B-corp (meaning Stasher, their factory, and their suppliers must maintain good and responsible practices) and the products are designed in California and produced responsibly in China.
8. Stasher Bags are hypo allergenic
Also, Stasher’s non-porous silicone surface also helps to inhibit bacterial growth, mold, and germs.
9. They can be used to freeze liquids (like soup) or casseroles - but be careful
Stasher is freezer safe, the best way to use is to fill the bag with your soup or leftovers and place it upright in the freezer till frozen. However, please use caution carrying and storing liquids. If you are taking to work or school in your insulated lunch bag, please ensure that they don't move about as they defrost and get bumped which could cause the seal to come open.
UPDATE
Shop Naturally is no longer selling Stasher Bags. We have an identical product from Australian brand Green Essentials at a significantly lower price point. The large bag is suitable for sandwiches and is wider than the Stasher Bag which makes the opening wider and easier to get food in and out.
