Does bicarb in natural deodorant formulas give you a rash under your arms? We sell some of the best natural deodorant Australia has to offer, but not everyone can tolerate one of the natural ingredients, bicarb soda. In this blog post we showcase the best bicarb free natural deodorant available in Australia in 2024.

Bicarb Free Natural Deodorant from Woohoo

This is one of the natural deodorants in my own regime. Woohoo have two of their formulas created without bicarb soda in their sensitive range. Mellow (in the yellow packaging) and Tango (in the orange packaging. The difference between the two purely comes down to scent. Mellow is completely free from any added natural fragrance and Tango uses citrus essential oils for a fresh and tangy aroma.

Both Mellow and Tango are formulated in the paste (tin) version and in a stick, which has plastic free packaging. They are powered with magnesium hydroxide and activated charcoal powder for odour control.

Woohoo Body are an Australian brand who have their manufacturing and warehouse in Newcastle in NSW.

Bicarb free natural deodorant from Noosa Basics

Noosa Basics is an Australian brand who make all their products in small batches. The majority of their range is formulated using bicarb soda and they're one of the few Aussie brands who do their roll-ons in a glass bottle rather than plastic.

In the roll-on deodorant, they use magnesium hydroxide as an active ingredient and the Coconut & Lime and the Sweet Orange & Lavender roll-ons are both bi-carb free. We don't currently have them in our range, but we can add them. In the deodorant sticks in the Noosa Basics range, the same two scents are made in a bi-carb free formula. The same goes for their deodorant tins. They do not have an unscented option like Woohoo have.

The deodorant sprays are all made without bicarb soda. We stock the Rose & Frankincense, which is one of the most popular scents in their range. The ingredients used are:-

Witch Hazel Leaf Extract*, Grape Alcohol, Lactobacillus Ferment, Magnesium Chloride (Food Grade), Pelargonium Roseum (Rose Geranium) Oil*, Boswellia Serrata (Frankincense) Oil*, Triethyl Citrate, Coco-Glucoside, Eucalyptus Polybractea Oil*, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) oil*, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Leaf Oil*, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Oil. *Certified Organic

Bicarb free natural deodorant from Crystal

If we're looking at the most affordable bicarb free natural deodorant on the market, it's definitely the sticks from USA brand Crystal. A Crystal Deodorant is made from a solid stick of natural mineral salts and will outlast any roll-on, spray or stick for months on end. They are unscented and suit anyone, especially those with sensitivities and as a great starter deodorant for teens. The brand do make sprays and roll-ons using the same mineral crystals as a base, but they do have bi-carb soda in them.

If you want to learn more about the crystal sticks, we have a blog called Potassium Alum, Ammonium Alum vs Aluminium Chloride with more information for you.

Bicarb free natural deodorant sticks from Slo Natural Beauty

New Zealand brand Slo Natural Beauty (formerly Aotearoad) have two plastic free natural deodorant sticks in their range. One is scented with wild orange essential oil, the other is unscented, with no essential oils in the formula. Like many other bicarb free deodorants, magnesium hydroxide is used to help with odour control. Cornstarch and tapioca help to dry up moisture and shea butter and coconut oil provide a carrier for the actives and nourishment for the skin.

Slo Beauty bicarb free deodorants

Everything in our store is aluminium free, which is the #1 thing that defines a natural deodorant, even though it's not a regulated term like sunscreen is. In a traditional antiperspirant, aluminium is used to block the pores and stop you from sweating under your pits. Our natural deodorants let you sweat, but they have active ingredients that stop the bacteria from smelling, which is where the odour comes from. Bicarb soda is known to soak up smells. You've probably put a bowl in your fridge to get rid of smells. It works on your skin too, but it can be a skin irritant for some, which is why these bicarb free formulas exist, and are usually powered with magnesium.
