Camelbak Chute is the largest water bottle in the Camelbak range
Camelbak Hydration Packs can hold over 10 litres of water, strapped to the rider or hikers back, but what about a Camebak water bottle. Camelbak Chute is the largest bottle, but what is their maximum capacity?
Originally it was the 750ml and the 1 litre bottles that were the most popular, with the 750ml being able to fit in the average bike cage, but a lot of customers wanted more than this, so Camelbak created a bottle twice the size of their most popular, and the 1.5 litre Camelbak Chute bottle came in to existence.
What colours does the Camebak Chute Mag 1.5 litre come in
Smaller bottles come in a variety of colours, but as the sizes get larger in most water bottle brands, neutral colours are usually all that's chosen, and that's certainly the case with the Camelbak Chute bottles in the largest size.
It's available in a clear bottle and also charcoal in our store. The main image shows the bottle in a beautiful ocean blue and there are some other fashion colours available but they're not currently available.
Is the Camelbak Chute 1.5 litre bottle available with a different lid?
Not off the shelf. The Camelbak Chute and the Camelbak Eddy+ both share the same thread on the bottle, so the lids are interchangeable.
The Camelbak Eddy+ in the 1 litre capacity is 25cm high. The Camelbak Chute 1.5 litre is 4cm taller at 29cm. Technically you can put a Camelbak Eddy+ Lid & straw pack on this bottle, but the straw will be around 3-4cm too short for the bottle. If you don't mind that, then technically you can put a bite valve lid on the 1.5 litre bottle, although it's not technically designed for it due to the straw length.
We compare the Camelbak Chute 1.5 litre with 2 other bottles
To give you an idea on size comparison, in the photo above, we have the more popular Camelbak Chute in a 750ml size (this one is my bottle, thus no labels and there's water in it) and on the right, the larger 2.2 litre bottle from Enviro Products. The Camelbak Chute 1.5 litre is sitting in the middle for a size comparison. These photos are from 2017 with the original Chute lid. In 2024, the lid has been upgraded to the Chute Mag lid which we'll explain below.
When you start getting to the size of a 2 litre water bottle, both the size and the weight need to be taken in to account if you want to drink directly from it. This is why Enviro Products built a handle in to the size of the bottle, and why Camelbak decided to stop at 1.5 litres to keep a traditional water bottle shape with something that's not too heavy to lift up to drink when it's full.
Camelbak Chute Lid vs Chute Mag lid
The image above shows the original Chute lids. They had a bit of a design flaw that was fixed with the Chute Mag redesign.
The first issue we had with them is quite a shallow thread. If you screw the drinking spout lid of an original Camelbak Chute bottle on and it's not completely lined up, it will leak when the lid is on. The easy fix, if you still own one, is when you go to screw the lid on, screw in the opposite direction first and you feel the thread seat exactly where it's supposed to go, then screw clockwise and you'll get the perfect seal each time.
The second issue with the lid was getting it to slide in to its position in the lid so it didn't bump your nose when you were drinking. It was a little tricky getting it to slide in.
The new Chute Mag fixes both these issues, both with the thread and also there's a magnet in the lid now to easily hold the lid on to the lid in the open position so it's easy to drink from. Like the original, the drinking spout lid is always attached to the bottle so you can't lose it, and certain design features have to be in place to make this a good experience. Camelbak got it right with the new Chute Mag lid.
In all these examples, all three bottles are made from BPA Free Tritan Eastman plastic. The Camelbak bottles are made from a much thicker plastic than the Enviro Products. I have, on multiple occasions, dropped my Camelbak Chute on pretty hard surfaces while they are full of water and while they have scratches all over them, they certainly didn't crack. You'd have more of a chance of smashing your lid if you dropped it too awkwardly, and you can buy replacement lids for all the Camelbak bottles. The Enviro Products are much thinner and you will crack one of these if you drop it filled with water.
