Have you ever heard of a ceramic lined water bottle? In Australia, in the stainless steel water bottle market, the first big name brand to put a ceramic lining in their water bottles was Frank Green. In our store we have some Frank Green dupes from Australian brand Oasis that have a similar water bottle with a ceramic lining that are premium quality with an affordable price tag. In this blog we are going to outline the reasons and benefits of a ceramic lined water bottle, when is it used and talk you through our range.

What are ceramic lined water bottles made from?

For the purpose of this article, all the Oasis water bottle options in our store that are lined with a ceramic coating are made from stainless steel. Bottles are always made from food grade stainless steel, labelled 304 grade. Every single stainless steel drink bottle in the Oasis range is also vacuum insulated, which means there are 2 layers of stainless steel and the air between the layers is vacuumed out and then it's sealed off. This vacuum is what allows the water bottle to retain the cold or the heat from what you put inside. Whether it's suitable to put hot or cold liquids in these bottles depends on on the lid, not the bottle. The bottles are always suitable for hot and cold liquids.

What does a ceramic lined water bottle look like?

From the outside, a ceramic lined water bottle will look exactly the same as their non-lined counterparts. It's when you take the lid off and look inside that you see a difference.

If you look at the photograph above, the inside of the bottle is white and smooth, like you would expect the inside of a ceramic mug or teapot to look. It's not fragile like 100% ceramic products are though, so don't worry about that. The linings are sturdy and durable and made to last.

What is the benefit of drinking from a ceramic lined water bottle?

For me, a ceramic lined water bottle bridges the gap between a glass water bottle and a stainless steel water bottle. It's the best of both worlds, the benefits of a glass water bottle without it being fragile.

Why?

For some people, and some brands can be worse than others, drinking from a metal or stainless steel water bottle can impart some metallic taste to your drink.

Taking this one step further, some people have sensitivities or allergies to nickel or chromium. Having a sensitivity to the taste of nickel makes anything you put inside a stainless steel bottle taste very metallic. When it's water, it's a very unpleasant experience.

Drinking from a ceramic lined water bottle from Oasis means there's no metallic taste. It also means if you choose to put something acidic in the bottle, a squeeze of lemon for example, the acid won't react with the bottle. The ceramic lining behaves like glass does with regards of being non-reactive, without the potential of breakages.

Taking one step further, they're also easier to clean.

What's in our range?

The Oasis water bottle range has 2 different ceramic lined options and we stock both of them, the Capri and the Moda design. There is a 1 litre water bottle in both styles which is one of the more common water bottle sizes we sell. The Capri comes in a 750ml and the Moda comes in twice the size, 1.5L.

The main difference in the features of these two water bottle designs are the lids. On the left is the Capri lid. On the right is the Moda lid.

Capri Lid (left) Moda Lid (right)

The Capri lid just has an open spout to pour the water out of, like you would drink out of any plastic bottle from the supermarket with a screw lid on it. The lid features a push button opening (the large button) which flips the clear cover off the lid. The little slide to the right of the big button is a lock that will lock the lid in to closed position. This is helpful for any time the bottle is travelling with you and not upright so you don't accidentally open it and have water spill out.

The Moda lid is a drinking draw lid and similar to the Frank Green style straw lids, but we like this one better. There's a lot of TikToks about their lids leaking, but we find the design of these doesn't have the same issue. Inside the bottle there's a silicone straw (and yes, we sell replacements) and on the top, a clear solid straw folds flat in to the lid when not in use, and you'll see a little silicone valve that gets plugged up with the lid is fully closed. When open, that little silicone valve allows for water flow.
