Are you familiar with the Dr Organic shampoo range? One thing we love about the best natural shampoo brands around the world is their dedication to providing a comprehensive range to cater for a wide variety of hair and scalp types. Gone are the days when sulfate free shampoo products are drying and strip the hair and are few and far between. I remember trying my first natural shampoo around 5 years before I started this store in 2009 and it was dreadful. My hair felt like straw. Fast forward to 2024 and there's so many options that are salon quality that it takes a bit of time to sit down and work out which option suits my needs the best. It's a great problem to have.

Who are Dr Organic?

Dr Organic are a UK based natural beauty brand who started their business in 2008, which is just one year before us. They have a significantly larger range that what we stock here on our shelves, but to give you some history, besides the deodorant and the natural shampoo and conditioners that we stock, they are also known for an extensive range of skin care, body care and some dental products as well. They take a core ingredient, like Rose Otto (for example) and then create a full range of products to benefit from the properties of that bioactive ingredient.

Dr Organic Shampoo for Clarifying

Every good hair care range has a clarifying shampoo. Sometimes it will be labelled as the shampoo for oily hair. Sometimes they'll be labelled specifically as a clarifying shampoo. If you're wondering what at clarifying shampoo is think "a really good clean". If you're overly oily or you're about to dye your hair or you've been out in the elements and your hair just feels gritty and full of grime and you can't get it clean with a regular shampoo, pull out a clarifying shampoo. They shouldn't be used every day because they will eventually strip all the natural oils out of your hair, but as a one off one or twice a week or just when you need it, they're a lifesaver.

The Dr Organic Shampoo for oily hair and clarifying comes in both a liquid shampoo and also a shampoo bar. It's one of three shampoo bars introduced to the Dr Organic Shampoo range in 2024. This is the only standalone, the other two are 2-in-1's which we will discuss further down this blog post. The Tea Tree Essential Oil in the formula helps to combat oil at the roots where it's produced by your scalp. It also uses peppermint essential oil to help settle any inflammation that may be occuring.

Dr Organic Shampoo for Dry Hair

Manuka Honey is a powerful natural ingredient that's used in the food as medicine arena all the time. In this hair care range, its addition to one of the Dr Organic shampoo formulas restores and replenishes dry hair and helps to restore shine to your hair. If your scalp is dry and makes you prone to dandruff, the manuka honey is gentle and nourishing to your scalp too.

Dr Organic Shampoo for Curly & Thick Hair

The buzz phrase in natural hair care is definitely the 'curly girl method'. If you don't have curly hair, this probably isn't on your radar, but if you do, the products you use and how you use them can make or break any curly hair style. Like the clarifying shampoo, there's both a liquid and a bar for curly hair.

Unlike a clarifying shampoo which gives a deep wash, a curly hair shampoo is the opposite and gives a very gentle wash. Why? The natural oils in your hair are needed to define and hold your curls, so by washing them out, your curly do ends up being a mass of frizz.

The plastic free option here is a 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner bar. Think of this like a CoWash (a conditioner wash) that's often a part of the curly girl method, where a specifically formulated conditioner bar is used to 'wash' your hair in place of a traditional shampoo and then conditioner to follow.

Dr Organic Shampoo for Coloured Hair

Whether you've decided to use a natural hair dye or something from the supermarket, you'll want to protect your hair with something that won't unnecessarily strip out the colour. This fruity delight does all the good things including enhancing shine & colour and holding in moisture. Did we mention it smells absolutely delicious and it's boosted with antioxidant rich Vitamin C. There's also a Colour Protect Mask in the range that pairs with the shampoo and the matching conditioner.

Dr Organic Shampoo for Sensitive Scalps & Noses

This dermatologically tested shampoo & conditioner pairing features Calendula to soothe and restore sensitive scalps and noses. This is the only fragrance free hair care duo in the Dr Organic range. It's very difficult to find unscented natural hair care so this one has always been a part of the range we carry and has only recently been joined by the rest of the range in 2024.
