Healthy Living Guide - Eco Friendly Articles
We have been a voice for eco living since 2009 when our online store was established. We sold $50,000 worth of stainless steel water bottles in January 2010 and it has been interesting to watch the trends evolve over the last decade. Back then, we were one of the first stores to sell reusable produce bags for your fruit & veg at the supermarket. We would sell a few each month. Once the War On Waste aired on the ABC in 2017, we were selling thousands of them and couldn’t get our hands on enough stock. Now you can buy them at the supermarket and Harris Farm.
We have watched natural deodorants migrate from roll-ons to pastes in tins to sticks in cardboard tubes that fully compost at the end of life. We have seen companies who make stainless steel straws in plastic hang sell packaging change their packaging because you, the consumer, spoke up and said it wasn’t acceptable and we passed every single message on, and they changed.
I was interviewed for the book Quitting Plastic in 2018 when the mainstream was ready to help embrace the change, and it has truly exploded since then. Our main message is simple, make small changes where you can. Don’t beat yourself up if you’re not perfect. I am always reminded of the quote by zero waste chef Anne Marie Bonneau:-
“We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly.”
