There are plenty of larger and taller plastic lunch boxes on the market, but they rarely last long. Finding this in a stainless steel lunch box and in particular, a bento box lunch box was difficult.

The first thing, and one of the most important things we get asked about is a taller bento box. The Sustain-A-Bento Trio stands at 7.2cm tall and is just under 2 litres in capacity at 1.8 litres. By comparison, similar bento lunch boxes on the market are the following sizes:-

Bento boxes designers usually don't have a full sandwich in mind when designing their boxes. For most, getting as many compartments in as possible in the best shapes and layouts is the goal. There is a place in the market for a bento this size with just 3 compartments because it lends itself to some food options you just can't usually get in any bento lunch box.

The largest compartment (left) will fit a sandwich, a piece of lasagne or quiche, or a salad which them allows room for fruit or snacks in the other two compartments. The Green Essentials Sustain-A-Bento Trio is simplicity and function without clips, silicone and things that can break. The lid fits firmly in to place like the old style 'biscuit tins' without any clips or silicone seals. This does mean that it's not leakproof, but you can put leakproof snack pots inside if you need to.

Because of this, it's 100% plastic free, can be washed in the dishwasher and will literally last you a lifetime if you don't accidentally drive over it and squash it.

We do get asked a lot about which stainless steel lunch box is best for kids. You can usually work out for yourself from size and compartments what's best, but the biggest thing is 'can my child get the lid off on their own'. The Sustain-A-Bento Trio will be fine for teens and older kids with strong hands, but it's not going to be easy for little ones. For this reason, we do market this as an adult bento box. It's a great one to take on a picnic for two.
