Klean Kanteen Lifetime Warranty + 12 hour insulation benefits
Klean Kanteen were the first stainless steel water bottle to be manufactured. The Klean Kanteen Lifetime warranty speaks to the quality of the bottles so shoppers can buy with confidence. They still hold themselves to the high standard that they started off with and offer a Lifetime Warranty on their products against manufacturing defects. To this date, and we've been selling them since 2009, we have never had a warranty issue with a bottle. We have had a handful of warranty issues with lids, and all have been promptly replaced at no charge to the customer.
What's covered under the Klean Kanteen Lifetime Warranty?
- Rough or split welding down the seam of the bottle
- Pinhole leaks from the welding down the seam of the bottle
- Large areas of paint that easily peels off
What's not covered under the Klean Kanteen Lifetime Warranty?
- Paint chipping or peeling due to normal wear & tear
- Damage from the bottle being dropped
- Wear & tear on plastic lids (replacements are all available to purchase)
We know customers who have purchased budget stainless steel water bottles, dropped them and had them crack and then complain about the quality. When we recommend they replace them with a Klean Kanteen, we never hear from them again. We have also kept in touch with family, friends & regular customers who all own these bottles and when they've been dropped, they've survived very well, albeit with a couple of scratches or a small dent, but still in perfect condition to hold water without them leaking.
How to test the insulation on a Klean Kanteen bottle for warranty
With any water bottle warranty, the most frequent issue, but still quite rare, is the insulation not working on the bottle. Sometimes these issues are purely managing expectations, other times the bottles are faulty. Here's our tips for testing if your insulated water bottle is holding it's insulation correct, and this is true for all brands, not just Klean Kanteen. The quickest way to do this is a hot water test.
- Boil the kettle, get the water as hot as you would have it for making tea or coffee
- Fill the water bottle and put the lid on it. Leave it for at least 5 minutes, but leave it 10 or 15 minutes if you have time. Up to an hour is fine too.
- Put your hands around the middle of the bottle. Do you feel warmth? The bottom and the middle of any insulated water bottle should still be cool with hot water inside it.
- This next part is where the managing expectations comes in to place. As you get closer to where the insulation ends, which is where the thread for the lid is, you're going to feel a little warmth and this is completely normal. Feeling warmth around the top of the bottle does not mean that the insulation isn't working.
How hot should my drink be at the end of the insulation time?
This is another area where we manage expectations for Klean Kanteen Lifetime warranty purposes. If a bottle says 12 hours hot insulation, this is your benchmark to go off.
- You should have preheated it with boiling water before putting your drink in
- The bottle should be full
- The bottle should not have the lid taken off during this time
- At the end of the advertised time, you should still be holding around half of your original heat
In a perfect world, none of that happens, so 12 hours hot insulation, if you're drinking periodically, is probably close to half of that, and especially as you get to the point where the bottle is only 1/3 full.
