The History of Natural Kids Play Makeup in Australia
Shop Naturally only stocks one brand of Kids Play makeup, No Nasties. We no longer stocks Pure Poppet. We have kids makeup set options available from No Nasties along with kid friendly nail polish and other goodies.
What was in the Pure Poppet range?
The very first brand of kids make up we ever sold was a very small range from a brand called Pure Poppet. They had loose mineral powders in colourful zip bags. For a short period of time they also sold Natural Face Paint Packs. Each pack contained 3 mineral powder pots that turn in to face paint when a little water was added, a natural play makeup crayon, 3 stencils and an applicator.
They also had a couple of lip balms and nail polish in 2 colours. It was called 5 free, which by todays standards doesn't even meet the criteria we choose for adult nail polish. They also temporarily had some Hair Colour Packs which here a non permanent colour. It was like a chalky powder that would instantly wash out of your hair. It certainly wasn't like a natural or henna hair dye which will last for a few weeks, this was just apply and wash straight out. What came next?

Who came next?
Pure Poppet didn't stay in our range for very long. Shortly after their entry in to our store, No Nasties Kids came along, and it's the only kids makeup we sell to this day. We're not 100% sure which brand came first, but we do know that once we found No Nasties Kids, we realised it was the far superior product and their range has increased significantly since their inception. They are the most innovative natural kids makeup brand in the country.
About kids makeup pressed powders
There are other brands around in the market, but the rest of the natural brands still use loose powder for their blushes and eye shadows. It can be easily spilled and accidentally inhaled and should always be used under supervision.
No Nasties Kids were the first, and to the best of our knowledge, the ONLY Australian natural kids makeup brand to make pressed powders. There's less mess, they last longer and the risk of accidentally inhaling loose powder in large amounts isn't a concern.

The pressed powders are now a part of the makeup kits and can be bought separately as well.
About Kids Nail Polish
When Pure Poppet had kids makeup, it was called 5 free kids nail polish. 5 free means they don't contain any toluene, DBP, formaldehyde resin or camphor. By 2025 standards, this doesn't even cut it for an adults nail polish. The evolution of kids nail polish has gone 2 ways - some brands choose to use adult formulas that are 10-free and stay on and need to come off with a polish remover. No Nasties Kids opted to use a water based product that's for play not stay. It easily peels off when the kids are done playing for the day, and comes off with the rest of their makeup.
