Weleda updated their original Pomegranate skin care range with new formulas and have rebranded the range the Weleda Firming Face Care range. Weleda have a different approach to categorising their natural skin care products. While many brands solely choose skin types or conditions to define their beauty ranges, Weleda also suggest an age bracket where their skin care is likely to provide the most benefit.

Weleda Firming Face Care for mature skin 40 years +

The Weleda Firming Face Care range falls in their 'Signs Of Ageing' category, which is defined as skin care to soften the look of fine lines and wrinkles. The range highlights the core actives of organic pomegranate and maca peptides. To contrast, the Weleda Skin Food range of facial products falls under the dry skin and doesn't have an age range specified. The new Contouring range is for mature skin and contains ingredients to help counteract the effects of menopause on the skin which has been targeted at skin 50 years and over.

Pomegranate in Natural Skin Care

Pomegranates are native to Asia and today are grown in the Mediterranean, the Middle East, India and South America. They are known to be a symbol of life, fertility and strength in many cultures and the trees can live up to 200 years.

The actives in pomegranate assist with fighting premature ageing by promoting cell renewal and stimulating your skins natural regenerative processes. The oil from pomegranate seeds is anywhere between 12 and 20 percent of the whole seed. Punicic acid is a polyunsaturated fatty acid belonging to the Omega-5 group and is around 50% of the fatty acids found in pomegranate oil, which is extracted from dried seeds.

Pomegranate seed oil and the potent essential fatty acid it contains breaks down free radicals and stimulates cell renewal and makes it the perfect edition to a skin care range targeting skin aged 40 years and over that's slowly starting to show the signs of ageing.

Maca Peptides in Natural Skin Care

Maca is a food supplement derived from the root of the Maca plant. It's an adaptogen that is known to help balance hormones among many other things. While usually taken internally, blended in smoothies or used as an ingredient in cooking, it's also an incredibly powerful and potent ingredient to use externally as an active ingredient in skin care formulas.

One of the things it's known for in skin care is to help the outer layer of your skin, the epidermis, stay flexible and maintain the natural elasticity of your skin (it's ability to 'bounce back'). The peptides also help to increase your skins natural collagen production, much like Vitamin C does.
