The Hluru 9 Note Premium Tongue Drum is made from Copper Steel Alloy and has a beautiful mellow tone that rings ever so smoothly with subtle harmonics that ring out. The recordings don't do it justice. In real life the vibration is just amazing.
14 inches in diameter, it has the potential for great volume and long ringing time when you strike the tongues with your mallet. You can feel the vibration in your body as you play and escape and unwind. It has the best tone out of all the drums in store. Those with a finely tuned ear or who are sensitive to vibrations will notice the difference over anything else they've heard or played.
It is tuned to the key of D Minor (the natural minor) starting with D3 (the lower drone note, which when used as a drone note makes this the most spectacular tongue drum I have ever played). Starting from the D4, you have E4, F4, G4, A4, and then the notes below that are C4, Bb3, A3 with that drone D3 in the middle. We will be shooting some tutorial videos on this one next year. This drum weighs 3.2kg and is best laid on a flat surface to play. The drum will vibrate and resonate with whatever you put it on. Experimenting with different sounds on different surfaces is fun! To dampen the sound a little, place it on a soft surface like a towel or padded furniture or sit on the ground with it.
WHO DOES THIS DRUM SUIT?
For an adult, this is a premium drum with a premium tone that will be noticed by a musician or for those who are sensitive to sound and vibrations. It's a beautiful drum for meditation and relaxation. It's large enough and loud enough to physically feel the vibrations when you play which is a big part of the relaxation process. For a child, it's a premium instrument to give a child that likes to be calm and relax and may need a little help. It's a great way to introduce a musical instrument with no training. It helps to train hand / eye co-ordination along with sound. Supervise young children with the mallet.
There's not a huge amount of scope to play songs you'll recognise with the tuning of this instrument, but it's not really what it's for. We will be doing some original songs on this one in videos in 2023 as a part of a relaxation and meditation ritual.

1 zip up carry case with backpack straps. Please note we have had some issues with the tabs on the zippers breaking on these and we're unable to get replacements. Using a large paper clip threaded through will fix the issue.
TONE - With all tongue drums in our store, the higher the price tag, the more beautiful and mellow the tone is. Made from Titanium Steel Alloy, the harmonics have a more subtle overtone, the ringing of the notes after you strike them is just a little shorter with a bit less overlap and you can really feel the vibration through your body as you play and even afterwards.
You can get a wide variety of volume and depth of sound and duration of the ringing depending on how hard or soft you hit the tongues with the mallet. To get the best sound, don't 'grip' the mallet tightly, keep it loose in your hand and let it bounce off the tongue naturally as you strike it.
