The Hluru 13 Note Mellow Tongue Drum is made from Titanium Steel Alloy and has a beautiful mellow tone. 12 inches in diameter, it has the potential for great volume and long ringing time when you strike the tongues with your mallet. You can feel the vibration in your body as you play and escape and unwind. It is a little softer and more mellow than the Lotus 13 note. To compare the two, this drum has more subtle harmonic overtones, it's gentler and more calming to play. Those with a finely tuned ear or who are sensitive to vibrations will notice the difference when stepping up to this model. It sound more like a gong where the lotus sounds more like a bell.
It is tuned to the key of C Major and contains all the notes from G3 to E5. The notes are layed out in a way that it's easy to free play and sound beautiful without needing to learn any specific song. If you choose to learn a song, the 3 lowest notes form a line through the middle (G3, A3, B3) then the rest of the notes are laid out in a beautiful array that makes a really lovely sound when free playing just around in a circle, which is what we did for our recording.
This drum weighs 2.75kg and is best laid on a flat surface to play. The drum will vibrate and resonate with whatever you put it on. Experimenting with different sounds on different surfaces is fun! To dampen the sound a little, place it on a soft surface like a towel or padded furniture or sit on the ground with it.

You can get a wide variety of volume and depth of sound and duration of the ringing depending on how hard or soft you hit the tongues with the mallet. To get the best sound, don't 'grip' the mallet tightly, keep it loose in your hand and let it bounce off the tongue naturally as you strike it.
