How long does a konjac sponge last?
Konjac sponges are made to break down and return to the earth. Depending on how often you use them, they can last anywhere between 1 to 3 months. They are made from a natural porous root vegetable, and can be put in your compost bin once they start to break down. Because they are so great at holding moisture, they're really good to bury in the garden near plants to retain moisture in the soil.
How to take care of your konjac facial sponge
The frequency in which you use it and how you treat it will determine how long you get out of your konjac facial sponge. The more care you take with them, the longer they last. In between uses, let the sponge dry out. Get excess water out by gently squeezing the sponge only. If you wring it, it will break down far too quickly. As your konjac sponge dries, it will harden. This is normal.
If you live in humid conditions, storing it in the fridge in between uses will prolong the lifespan of the sponge. You can also dry them hanging from a heated towel rack if you have one. The quicker they dry and the less humidity they're subjected to, the longer they will last. Getting all the excess water out as quickly as you can is the goal.
Once a week you can plunge your konjac sponge into boiling water to clean it and kill any bacteria that have built up in it. Allow to fully dry afterwards.
Using your konjac sponge for the first time
When you first get your konjac sponge, it will be hard. Don't ever use them hard. You will scratch your skin, you can only gently cleanse with a konjac sponge when it is wet and spongey. There is zero benefit to using it hard. With warm water, get it really wet and you will feel it soften and be almost a little slippery. At this stage it's ready to use.
What are the benefits of using a konjac sponge?
A konjac sponge will give you deep cleansing power and gently exfoliate each time you use it. They're perfect for normal skin types, mature skin, oily skin, dry skin and even sensitive skin. We do recommend limited use if you have sensitive skin as the sponges do physically exfoliate.
For those with oily skin, they are particularly good at unclogging pores and removing dead skin cells without any product necessary. They are great for removing makeup and if you're travelling, you can ditch your cleanser, exfoliant and makeup remover for one sponge.
